Leeds United's Largie Ramazani celebrating promotion with fans:
On Monday my football team, Leeds United, got promoted. We're now going to play our football in the top league, the Premier League, with the likes of Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Everton, Liverpool, Manchester City, Manchester United, Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and, lest I forget, Nottingham Forest. I'm a very happy bunny.
I started supporting Leeds United when I was about five years of age. At the time they, along with Liverpool, were one of the top football teams in England. I perhaps should have supported Stoke City because my granddad regularly took me to their games. But instead and the ingrat I was, I decided to be a glory hunter and support Leeds United, though I have stuck with them during their inglorious years.
Here are eight reasons to support Leeds United:
Leeds United's Marching On Together:
If not already, would you consider supporting Leeds United?
What sporting teams do you support?
As well as Leeds United, I support Shrewsbury Town and Montrose as my second and third football teams. I support Shrewsbury Town because they were my local team when I lived in Shropshire, and Montrose because they were my best Subbuteo team that I owned. And of course I root for England in international football games.
Other sporting teams I follow are Nottingham Panthers (my local ice hockey team), Montreal Canadiens (my NHL ice hockey team), Ineos Grenadiers (my Tour de France cycling team), Leeds Rhinos (my rugby league team), Leeds Tykes (my rugby union team), Yorkshire County Cricket Club (who play their games in Leeds), Beeston Hockey Club (my local field hockey team), and of course San Francisco 49ers (my NFL team and owners of Leeds United).
PS. The Easter weekend was good for me sporting-wise. On Sunday my ice hockey team, Nottingham Panthers, won the playoff finals. But all this good news was slightly tempered by my second football team, Shrewsbury Town, getting relegated last week. At least my Scottish football team, Montrose, won't get relegated though they won't get promoted either! But Montreal Canadiens are still in NFL's Stanley Cup playoffs. Lets go the Habs!

Some great jocks played for Leeds back in the day, not least wee Billy.
Not sure they finish top 5 in thenpremier league but it would be great if they stayed up!!
Delighted for you!!
Leeds had a lot of top Scottish footballers in their time - Billy Bremner, Eddie Gray, Peter Lorimer, David Harvey, Gordon McQueen, Joe Jordan, Frank Gray and Gordon Strachan to name but a few.
Leeds' aim next season is to finish 17th!
Congratulations!!! I am happy your team is moving up
Hugs!!
Now my football team has the challenge of staying up!
I have yet to completely become a fan. Closest I have learned about the sport other than referring to it as Soccer is watching three seasons of Ted Lasso.
For me Football is what we call our American sport. I am a two conference fan. One being in the AFC The Miami Dolphins and when I lived there was a season ticket holder. Something about tailgating is the best way to enjoy the stadium experience and in the NFC, I am a Chicago Bears fan although I am not one to enjoy tailgating in the cold climate.
Ted Lasso is a great introduction to the game of football, or soccer as you call it.
The next World Cup in 2026 will take place in America, Canada and Mexico. I hope America goes football-mad then.
Congratulations that's great to hear, I hope you enjoy all of your favorite teams and their games..
I hope your enjoying a thrilling Thursday..
Leeds united now just need the San Francisco 49ers, the club's owners, to splash the cash on top players so we can compete in the top league next season.
Well done Leeds United !!! I follow Man U, who have gone down the gurgler, of late. π π
Manchester United are having a terrible season, though they can still win the Europa League (and therefore qualify for the Champions League next season).
I donβt support any team in any sport. In factβ¦ Iβve never even been to a sporting event. And even more than that: I've never watched a sporting event, not even on TV.
But in this case, Iβll make an exception and say: youβve turned me into a Leeds fan! Whatever sport they play
You won't regret your decision to support Leeds United. They play football.
The teams I stuck with are all from NY (Mets, Jets, Knicks, Rangers) and any team that faces the Yankees. They were all among the best when I was 6-7 years old. In northern NJ, the only tv channels were from NYC, so it is natural that I became a fan. Most have experienced long periods of being bad. Among those, the Jets are a long term study of dysfunction, and it is torture to root for them, but that;s being a Jets fan. Right now, the Knicks are in the playoffs and the Mets have the best record in this young season. In the Tour, I mostly root for individuals. This year it will be anyone who can challenge Pogacar. I tend to root for Rory in golf right now. I don;t really have a favorite in the Premier League. We get the games here, I tend to not like the teams that spend big money and always finish first.
The only way to win the Premier League now is to spend money. It's one reason why nearly every club is owned by rich foreigners or foreign companies. Gone are the days when a local businessman/woman would own a top club.
@spunkycumfun Sadly, that is true.
@njfitguy1 Capitalism has run riot in global sport. Interestingly with its draft picks and salary caps, America seems to run its sport more on socialist lines than Europe.
@spunkycumfun Sort of. There are still some big spenders who go way over the threshold and end up paying a high luxury tax. The biggest offenders are NY and LA.
@njfitguy1 English football authorities have introduced rules to regulate the spending of clubs but there always seems to be ways around these rules.
