Same as “boo”, it’s slang for your sweetie. I did learn something from Urban Dictionary just now though. I always assumed it was short for babe or baby, but some people say it’s an acronym for Before Anyone Else.
@smartasswoman 'Bae' sounds a bit Scottish to me but probably only because of the Scottish 'brae' word meaning hillside.
