A Scanner, A Moth, a Copier Repair Tech

The work technology has been hating me lately.

Let me tell you, I've been hating it too!

For the third monthly check run in a row, I've had to call the copier company we lease our copiers through and get a technician in to diagnose why my printer keeps telling me it's jammed when it is not.

I've had a tray replacement.....

I've had a roller replacement.....

This visit resulted in a diagnosis of a clutch mechanism that isn't working properly.

I've wanted to drop-kick this piece of shit so many times... I'm surprised I haven't gone full on 'Office Space' yet and taken it out into the courtyard to beat the shit out of it with my coat rack.

We should all be proud of the level of restraint it's taken for me to not do this!

So yesterday, it had happened once again. A new piece of technology, a new rash of shit.

The copier technician was still on the phone, ordering the clutch mechanism, when the scanner on my desk decided it was time to become my newest pain in the ass.

"What the hell? Why isn't it pulling the paper through??"

I turned it on, I turned it off...

I opened the tray and fully extended it.

I tried to scan again.... It pulled the paper partially through then stopped.

Paper jam.

"Oh my flipping God!! You're killing me!!"

Attempting one last scan, I put the paper in place, I hit the button, and the scanner begrudgingly rolled into action, clunkily pulling the paper all the way through.

"What's this brown smear? What on earth is happening??"

Repair Tech had gotten off the phone by this point and was now standing in the doorway to my office, peering down at my scanner.

"Somethings in it."

"What could be in it? I just used it earlier this morning. It was fine!"

"Try scanning again, I might be able to see something."

Thankful Repair Tech was there, he really didn't have to look at anything other than his copier, I was happy to have him watch my scanner in action.

Once again, I put the paper in place and hit the button. The scanner rolled into action, clunkily starting to pull the paper through.

We stared intently as the process began to smooth out, mid scan, and a giant moth appeared, at the end of another brown smear.

"Welp, I think we figured out what was in your scanner."

"Yah"

Ugh... Silver linings.
