I bumped into her, while we walked the vast expanse of that inhumanely freezing Fairview Mall parking lot last Saturday. You know me, and how charming I can get, right? I suggested a practical solution to her question.
"I can go to Romano's... and get us a pizza. It's along the way."
She looked at me with wide eyes and smiled with surprise. "Are you being serious?"
As I reached for my car door, I raised my head and smiled back. I might have implied ( ...or did she infer ?... ) an aquatic adventure, when I lowered the tone of my voice and asked her a question. "So, you said you have a heated pool?"
"Yes. My building has a huge indoor pool. It could be fun."
And in that split-second, my heart sank as I realized my unexpected success... and predestined failure. I was headed to my daughter's place for dinner. There was no other choice.
"I'm sorry but... "
I'm pretty sure SHE heard nothing. Her smile faded, and her eyes dimmed. She held the icy door handle to her car as she waved and spoke. "Another time."
I think we both knew there wouldn't be another time. This was a "one-off" parking lot connection — that I fumbled.
Postscript: My conversation with 'swimming pool lady' was obviously longer than I shared in this post. Seriously? I was just flirting and never thought she'd accept my offer — silly me.🙂

I don't dwell on past opportunities. What's the point? I can't change anything.
I feel comfortable interacting with strangers. I'm never short of a few words and a smile. Although, I keep my distance from the mean-looking ones.😁

Yes, I do "interact" with strangers
And I try to seize opportunities without hesitating too much, more so when I was younger than now. However, I have missed some, as is logical, sometimes for stupid reasons, and now I regret it.
Psychology, philosophy and positive thinkers have been the mentors in my life.
I would go back... and dwell about things.
But I'd be there ALL day. 😅💕

I had something like it years ago while working out of state in Roswell, New Mexico. We had chatted by the pool area earlier that day. Talking about her home life and mine. She was an artist there at a show in town. She called my room very late that night. I had already gone to bed. She claimed to have lost something, a precious emerald necklace. She wanted me to come help her look for it. I had to leave early the next morning on the long drive back. I have regretted till this day not getting dressed and going to her room. I know in my mind she wanted a sexual encounter with me.

I think about opportunities missed. A lot of times I look back and realize I dodged a bullet. Others, I have some regrets and ask myself what I would have/ could have done differently.
I know what you mean. Occasionally, I'll pause at something that brings back a failed or wrong choice I might have made. It lasts a minute or so.

Engaging in casual conversations with strangers often happens despite the reluctance of many here to even make eye contact. My daughter and friends observe I can talk to anybody. It usually bodes well 😊
I find people on busses and subways usually keep to themselves. Talking with random people can be a lot of fun if the person you talk with is as bubbly as you are.🤗
