Today May 8th, marks the 80th Anniversary of V-E Day which stands for Victory in Europe Day, to give it its full name. The end of the Second World War in Europe on 8 May 1945, when the Allies accepted the surrender of Nazi Germany.
Canadian soldiers were instrumental in the Liberation of European countries, and especially the Netherlands, pushing back Nazi Germany and Hitler along with Germany's surrender.
80 years later, celebrations and ceremonies both in Canada, Europe and especially the Netherlands/Holland and other Allied countries who sacrificed and fought for FREEDOM from tyrannical bullies especially, come together..
Veterans Affairs Canada will host a public commemorative event in Toronto to mark the 80th anniversary of the Liberation of the Netherlands and Victory in Europe (V-E) Day that will include the official Government of Canada delegation and feature the lighting of the CN Tower as a beacon of peace, a lantern-lighting ceremony, and a symbolic presentation of the commemorative combat boots underscoring the themes of remembrance, peace, and the homecoming of soldiers.
The Netherlands have never forgotten 8 decades later and every single year, send our Canadian government thousands of tulip bulbs, called "Friendship Flowers" to show their love and appreciation for Canada and our help in Liberating them from Hitler's Germany back in WW2..
Canada's contribution during both World Wars and so many others helping Liberate other countries from tyranny, bullies, Hitlers and the insanity of MALE ( key word is Male there) world leaders who do not believe in Freedom at all, is what we as Canadians are known for..
Always caring, Always Canadian, Never Defeated..Canada itself has never been defeated in any war, nor would be, especially against tyranny and insane lunatics when it comes to Freedom and Sovereignty..
My hometown Legion here is having a ceremony today to commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Canada's contribution to the Victory of Europe ( V-E DAY). How about yours?

Canadian forces bore a heavy load for the Commonwealth forces during the fighting in Western and Northern Europe, particularly. They fought gallantly, often "punching above their weight class" against some of the toughest German divisions, sustaining terrific losses but eventually coming out on top. Tremendous respect for their contributions and achievements.

I see this situation being temporary....We were content to sit back do nothing and then we had to gear to fight in Asia, Europe, and Africa. no other country has ever had to do this

Once we liberate ourselves from the orange faced bully in the future and elect someone legitimate, we will be better and hopefully humbled that we got rid of another slime of humanity like we did 80 years ago.

As a Brit, i thank all those that served to help us free Europe of Nazi tyranny. Canada and many commonwealth nations joined the fight straight away and many made the ultimate sacrifice and we can never forget these brave souls. Unfortunately there are still those that proudly rally behind that flag of hatred and have learned nothing. Freedom is hard fought for and easily given away.
It is sad that the world in this day and age are still waging wars against countries that have Hitler like leaders. Cheers to the Commonwealth Nations who fought side by side together 80 years ago and now..xoxo

My mothers best friend married a Canadian soldier who was stationed in Northern Ireland . They moved back to Canada and she loved it there.

The courage of those who fought for our freedoms in WWII must never be forgotten. WWI was "the war to end all wars", but peace only lasted for 21 years. So far, we have managed 80 years without a global conflict, but stupid, narcissistic old men that peddle the lies that their simplistic solutions will find answers to complex problems and bring us back to a golden age that was no more real than Camelot, represent a real threat to that. How quickly people are willing to forget what those brave men and women sacrificed so much for!

Having lived in Holland in the 80's can attest that the older generation then had a soft spot for Canadians , except when it came to ice sports
