It is indeed a sad thing when one person loves another but they do not feel the same way. Bonnie's song is so emotionally accurate. I do not recall that it has happened to me but I have seen it happen to others. Seems it is not an uncommon occurrence. There was a movie on that subject that I saw one or closer to two decades ago where the not loved ones did not react well. Can't recall the name but it starred Meg Ryan, Matthew Broderick and Gerard Depardo. (yes I know I spelled his name wrong.)
Sending you big naked hugs and thanks for this post. A very good one.
@justskin1 It's true—unrequited love is one of life's most poignant and universal experiences, and Bonnie Raitt's "I Can't Make You Love Me" captures that emotion so beautifully. Even if we haven't personally lived through it, witnessing it can be just as impactful.
I believe the movie you're thinking of is "French Kiss," which indeed stars Meg Ryan, Matthew Broderick, and Gérard Depardieu (no worries about the spelling!).
I'm glad you enjoyed the post, and I appreciate your kind words.
@sexyldy1000 Now that you mentioned it the name "French Kiss" sounds right to me. Not that I have doubts that you are wrong.
Sending you big hugs.
That song makes me tear up EVERY time I hear it! There are times I have to hit the "skip" button because it's just such raw emotion from her! I guess I've been lucky... I've never loved someone who didn't love me. Now lusting for someone is a different story!
@TicklePlease Bonnie Raitt's raw emotion truly makes the song powerful, and it's understandable that it can evoke such strong feelings. It's great to hear that you've been fortunate in love.
I agree…..Lusting is a whole different adventure! 😉
I've been on both ends. Loving someone who didn't love me back and having someone love me that I didn't love back. Both were difficult, in different ways.
@superbjversion2 Thank you for sharing your experiences. Being on both ends of unrequited love brings its own set of challenges, and I admire your resilience in facing them.
It sux when love isn't returned, but like the song says, you can't make someone love you. The older I got, the more I embraced that it wasn't meant to be.
@JN63JPN Thank you for sharing. It's tough when love isn't returned, but acceptance often comes with time. I'm glad the song resonated with you and helped bring some perspective.
Huge Bonnie fan
Great pics and post. 💕
@Paul001 Thank you so much! I'm glad you enjoyed the post and the pictures.
Bonnie Raitt's music resonates with so many of us 😊
I had a few instances in my youth with unrequited love. I'm not sure those really count given my age. When I listen to the song though, I think of family and friends that I couldn't make love me. I certainly couldn't make them love me the way that I wanted to be loved (not a romantic love). Some people are just not capable of that.
@CL_Love It's true that love and acceptance come in many forms, and sometimes it’s about recognizing the different capacities of those around us.
I'm sorry to hear about your experiences, and I appreciate your honesty and taking time to comment.
I really do enjoy this song, as it really makes you think. I can't say I have ever been in a position that I loved someone and they didn't love me back.
Thanks for sharing this song with us, I really enjoyed listening to it today. I hope your Friday is a great start to a wonderful weekend..
@Tmptrzz Thank you for your kind words and for sharing your perspective. It's wonderful to hear that the song resonated with you in a different way. I'm glad you enjoyed listening to it.
Wishing you a fantastic Friday and an even better weekend! 😊
Sometimes it isn't that the other person doesn't care for you, you just care about them a lot more. I honestly think that has been the case for me more often than not.
@smartasswoman It's true that sometimes the balance of feelings can be uneven, even if both people care deeply in their own way. It can be challenging to accept and navigate these dynamics.
Thank you for sharing your perspective.
There's been a few times that my love wasn't returned. I found these situations of unrequited love to be the most difficult at the time to deal with. With age, I now realise that I have to accept the situation with good grace and walk away. But it was so difficult to do that at the time. At the time, I felt I could negotiate but all such efforts failed.
I also realise that a few women may have had their love for me unrequited, so I'm not taking any moral high ground.
Great post.
@spunkycumfun Unrequited love indeed tests our emotional resilience and teaches us life-long lessons. It's heartening to hear that with time, you've gained a compassionate perspective on both sides of unreciprocated feelings. We often learn and grow from these experiences, even if they are incredibly tough at the moment.
Your comment truly resonates with the essence of the post, and I'm grateful for your kind words. 🙂
Here’s the video…it’s worth listening to it.
Great song. 💕
@Paulxx001 👍 I wanted to write about it for a long time.
