I identify as an empath. It is a blessing and exhausting. The joy is amazing. The pain is excruciating. This is also why I recharge best alone. Cabin in the woods
@PonyGirl1965 Thank you for sharing your feelings.
You have confirmed being an empath can indeed be both a blessing and exhausting.
The joy of feeling deeply connected to others is incredible, but the pain can be excruciating.
It’s completely valid that you recharge best alone, perhaps in the serene solitude of a cabin in the woods. Many empaths find solace in nature and quiet spaces.
I have okay empathy, definitely have empathy for my friends and family.
But maybe not for a stranger.
Definitely not the same as Mother Teresa or Gandhi.
@resant78 While you may not feel the same level of empathy as Mother Teresa or Gandhi, it’s essential to recognize that empathy exists on a spectrum.
Empathy isn’t a fixed trait; it can evolve over time. While you may not feel the same as these iconic figures, acknowledging your empathy for friends and family is a positive step.
Like many other commenters, I think I'm relatively empathetic, but not necessarily an empath. I know many whose empath tendencies are likely a trauma response having lived with a significant need for guaging the mood of people around them that could do them harm.
@CL_Love Empathy and being an empath are related but distinct concepts. While both involve understanding and sharing feelings, they operate on different levels.
While you may be empathetic, being an empath involves a heightened and more direct emotional connection.
It’s essential to recognize and care for yourself if you identify as an empath, given the emotional toll it can take
I can identify with empaths. It takes me less than a second to feel somebody's pain. Those emotions are often deeply sad and can be overwhelming unless I manage my thoughts. Whether I know that individual or not, I usually offer an encouraging word or a reassuring smile.
And then there are those moments when I actually experience a person's joy. I don't mind the blurry eyes when I'm lucky to feel someone's happiness. 😊💕
@Paulxx001 It sounds like you have a heightened sensitivity to others’ emotions, which can indeed be both a gift and a challenge.
Experiencing someone’s pain or joy so acutely can be overwhelming, but your compassionate response—offering encouragement or a smile—is a beautiful way to connect with others.
Remember to take care of yourself too!

Fortunately, I have a switch, and when I decide to turn that dial off, nothing seeps in. Which is not good. Lol... 😂
There's such a fine line between a quirk and a fancy label in a psychology manual. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone. 😎
@Paulxx001 Ah, the delicate balance between quirks and fancy labels! 😄 It reminds me of Masaki Mizushima, also known as “Normal Hero: Manual” from the world of My Hero Academia. His water-controlling quirk has its own limitations, just like our mental switches.
As for fancy labels, well, they can be intriguing.
And remember, you’re not alone in navigating that fine line—we all have our quirks!
@sexyldy1000
You've read "Hero?"
That was a stretch. Lol... 😂
Yeah, like Masaki says. Although anime is not my thing.
I'd ask what yours are (quirks, that is), but I already know. 🤔
@Paulxx001 LOL. Um, no you don't
@sexyldy1000
It's five in the morning, and I've given up. A restless robin with determined lungs has been chirping incessantly for the last hour. My sheets are damp, and the weather app says it's already 25, but it feels like 30. FFS: Are you kidding?
I recall, with fondness, some of those sub-zero January days when I bitched about the un-Godly cold. Is there nothing in between?
THIS, will be my Wednesday song... and the speed at which I'll be moving today. It's fine if you shuffle along.
And yes... I know more than you can imagine. 😎
I know people who claim to be empaths but I suspect they don't know the definition.
I am intuitively sympathetic but probably not to an empaths degree.
@superbjversion2 It’s interesting how people often use terms like “empath” without fully understanding their precise definitions.
Being intuitively sympathetic is a valuable quality, even if it doesn’t reach the intensity associated with empaths. Your empathy still makes a positive impact!
There are some Empath's here that I didn't know about.
There are many Empath's in the world today as I find out
about them on the Dead Files where Amy lets people know
that they are Empath's and what they can do.
There are many people in the world that has some
exceptional gifts and I hope that they use them for
good.
I hope you enjoy a tantalizing Tuesday..
@Tmptrzz It’s fascinating to learn about people with exceptional gifts, including empaths.
Amy from the Dead Files seems to play a crucial role in helping individuals recognize their empathic abilities and understand how to use them. When these gifts are channelled for good, they can make a positive impact on others. 😊
I'm not an empath though I try to be empathetic.
@spunkycumfun That is a very specific difference and distinction.
