My family heritage traces back to England and Ireland.
I am the youngest of three kids, the only girl, and raised in a typical middle-class, sports-oriented family.
Growing up, I was quiet, considered tall for my age, wore glasses, did well in school, was not skinny, and was teased a lot. I was interested in dance and modeling classes, sang in school and church choirs, was in the chess club, and loved books, crossword puzzles, cards, board games, and jigsaw puzzles
I always wanted to help others and thought I would become a teacher or have a role in medicine. However, other people’s blood and vomit made me nauseous and science and math were not my strongest subjects so neither became my chosen profession. I spent my career in the corporate sector until I was ‘downsized’ in 2015. I joined an event staffing company in 2017 and a second one last year. Sometimes, I meet thousands of attendees during an event.
My love of reading continues. My favourite genres include crime-based fiction, mysteries, and biographies. Trips to the library usually result in me lugging home 10-12 books. I have tried adapting to an electronic reader. It has not been comfortable. I love the feeling of a book in my hands and turning the pages.
I am a huge sports fan/nerd and have seen every Toronto-based professional team play. I am waiting to add Toronto’s Professional Women’s Hockey League team to the list. I held Toronto Argonauts season tickets for a few seasons.
My musical tastes are eclectic. I equally enjoy vocals and instrumentals.
Songs including: Somewhere Over the Rainbow, Amazing Grace (especially when played on the bagpipes), What A Wonderful World, Always On My Mind, and O Holy Night (sung by a tenor) make me cry every time.
Since joining this site, my focus has shifted. I enjoy the freedom to express myself comfortably, whether writing about personal interests, trivia, or even erotica and sharing my point of view. My blog has provided an escape from the formal, business-style writing that was part of my corporate career. I have also helped others to edit their entries here and on other sites.
During a health crisis in 2018, I came ‘this close’ to crossing over. I will never forget laying in the emergency department, seeing the ‘bright light’ and hearing whispered voices encouraging me to join them. I adamantly shook my head and said, ‘No, I am not ready to go!’ My experience affirmed it was not my time to go and that I could influence my future.
I hate labels that are put on friendships and relationships. Friends and relationships come in various forms and can change over time. As long as those involved understand and agree to the parameters, a socially defined label is unnecessary.

I, too, like reading crime-based fiction. My favorite author is Agatha Christie. I have other authors that I like, too.

My family also traces back almost exclusively to England, Ireland, and Scotland, even though my ancestors can be traced back in north America to the 1600s and 1700s - very boring about only procreating within their own groups.
I haven't read any crime fiction, but I definitely am intrigued by true crime books!

#3, we had a similar girlhood I think. Tall, glasses, good in school, sang in choir.

@smartasswoman In contemporary terms, my height would probably fall into the ‘average’ category. Interestingly, my older brother, who is two years my senior, resented my taller stature until he experienced a growth spurt during his first year of high school.
@sexyldy1000 Yes, girls grow sooner. As is evidenced by all of my group pictures from grade school where I'm placed in the center of the back row. 😂
