Potluck stress

I miss the good old days where we bring potluck and everyone just enjoy the food with gratitude. Just now discussing about potluck for next week's event and it seems tougher to be 'politically correct' as some will say they are vegetarian, some has diet restrictions due to their beliefs and not due to health issues.

I'm planning to make Shepherd pie... so to be 'politically correct', I choose not to make the traditional pork or mutton or beef type due to some can't eat pork or beef due to their faiths... so I offered chicken. Then someone asked for fish... Errrr, I don't think Worcestershire sauce go well with fish, nor the shape of the shepherd pie will be firm using fish. How messy that will be after cutting up for sharing. and I don't think this able bodied person even do cooking herself. It's so easy to demand not knowing the hard work to make a good shepherd pie in my current health condition.

Then the same person said don't want mutton or chicken, and if fish cannot then can use lamb? Wah lau, am I to go to the butcher to ask them how old this minced lamb or mutton is? Can guarantee the lamb is below 1 years old? Got photo of the lamb before and after slaughter or not?

Come on, I'm only ordering from the online NTUC Fairprice to buy frozen minced meat since I can't go to the wet market myself. Or do I need to check the age of the minced frozen chicken too? Can NTUC hotline answer that??? Face-palm

Then I saw my class facilitator has to write down the ingredients of the Gado Gado she's bringing, even indicating the boiled eggs will be seperated because some vegan cannot eat eggs or onions or garlic, etc.

OMG, I don't know how fussy people can be these days. And due to 2 who are vegetarians, the other members started to write in they will be bringing also vegetarian friendly food too like fruits, cheese tarts or macrons. Totally like it's gotten be just a vegetarian feast.

Errrr, if want to talk about diet restriction, can I also say I'm anemia and needed MEAT? Can I also say I'm on dialysis so dark green veggies and beans type of food are bad for me so vegetarian feast is not healthy for me too?

Why I never say coz I'm not taught to be self entitled or demanding. Whatever people bring, if I want to eat, then I just eat with a thankful heart. And not demanding everyone must catered to my needs or wants. But it seems the world these days is accustomed to certain groups with their diet demands not due to health but due to their own beliefs.

I'm thinking living in a well off filled with food abundance SG spoiled a lot of us. Some people can be talking about their diet restrictions due to their beliefs, this cannot eat, that cannot eat... then saying things like they pity those without food in the war zones. I find that so hypocritical. Because people in war zones really have no food to eat, but these people here have food but don't want to eat.

I also hope these people don't ever come to a day where they are in the state of having nothing and need to eat in order to survive, then tell me if they still want to talk about their beliefs.

I wish I'm like my Chef Dad, he will just say, "if you don't like how I cook... then don't eat." Finished. End of discussion.

Really, traditional cuisines are slowly diminishing coz of weird demands to change the recipes. Fish Shepherd pie??? Where do you think a shepherd going to find fishes to cook on the mountain while he's tending the great flock of sheep? Shepherd pies are made of meat, not nonsense meat like those plant-based meat, alternate meat, etc. I'm proud of my traditional cuisines that was passed down. Sorry... gotten vent a bit. Roll-eyes

At first I just wanted to let them try my Eurasian cuisine as Shepherd pie is a celebrative dish, which I think just nice for the graduation. Now I'm having 2nd thought if I should just get a whole cabbage, some carrots and throw in vegetarian ham to make Veggies Curry instead. It is funny that most of them offered to bring only Carbs & snacks but no dip or sauce for the dry vegetarian rice and vegetarian Bee hoon.

As for me, I think I will just go to the Starbucks before class to grab a hot piping BEEF PIE since I still need to meet my daily protein diet.

Isn't it funny some vegan might find this post offensive but they won't think it is offensive when they demand others to cater to what they want and not what they need? My case is due to physical health that I need to eat meat for iron and protein... yet others can take offense coz their mental beliefs do not allow them to eat meat or certain food when I mentioned I need to eat meat and start judging me? Can see the difference? I'm okay if diet restrictions are due to physical health like allergies. (Needs not wants)

Anyway, I find it tough to do potluck these days. I think even if I try to be like MY LORD to give away baked goods, I also have people asking me is the flour bleached or unbleached, is the bread made with egg, etc. True experience.
