I got some shocking news today. Our beloved staff liaison was let go. I am disheartened and dismayed by this decision.
After begging the site for over a decade to hire a staff liaison after Ryan left for greener pastures, Mr. A. finally heard us and hired one of our own.
I have heard from other sources that the site has been systematically removing personnel who have been with the site since the previous management. One of those removed was our Mr. A. Man, that was a shocker when I heard, especially since Mr. A. was friends with Andrew. Since then, long-employed key personnel have been removed.
Recently , Brock announced that he "hired" a cam couple to liaise between users and management. The firing of one of our own coupled with the hiring of the cam couple gave me an inkling of the direction the site is headed, which doesn't bode well for us bloggers.
But then, us bloggers who've been around since the past iterations of the blogs and groups are no longer target demographics. Visual content has become mainstream. The written word is losing value. Blogs are becoming a thing of the past.
We knew and trusted our beloved liaison. We don't know Brock's choice. They've chosen to stick with their cam broadcasts to "talk" with members for the time being. You do you, boo. I would think that the audience would be limited to those who can join at that specific time. At least with blogs, world-wide time zones aren't an issue. But, times are changing, so will the means of communication.
To our beloved liaison, I would like to say thank you for all you've done for us, and "otsukaresama."
*otsukaresama is a greeting in Japan to thank people for working so hard that they've tired themselves out. Co-workers commonly say this to others who are leaving for the day instead of "bye."

I remember Ryan. I've been on and off the blogs since Ryan left way back when and this site just seems to remain the same. Buggy with a bunch of grumpy people. Rightfully grumpy since the site is so buggy. Most of my blogging friends left long ago. I miss having that little cyberspace of people.
Ryan was pretty cool and tried to get our voices heard.
The community's not the same as it was a decade ago, but there are still a few good ones here.
A heartfelt tribute, and beautifully said. “Otsukaresama” feels especially fitting—thank you for honouring her with such grace.

Bet you that company holds the other half of the 60 million debt of this site.
In the last month, about half of their profiles became VERIFIED over night. EVEN the one that haven't logged on . LOL
ALmost makes me think they are fake.
I was very disappointed in the cam couple. That is not my preferred choice for communication. And they seem more showy so far. Less actual workers.
Our friend was an intelligent asset. She will be missed by the other workers. And I will miss her personal help.
You are right that we may be getting phased out. Oh well ......

The management, not so much, since their bright idea of firing someone is waiting until she gets back from her sister's funeral.
It’s a bummer for all of us who benefited from Enigma’s hard work. And, like others, I feel pessimistic about the future of this part of the site.
Firing one of our own isn't the best move, especially they decided to tell her the day after she came back from her sister's funeral
I pay ZERO attention to anything other than the blogs here, so really don't know about new direction, etc. But her firing does tell me a lot.

She will be sorely missed, very sad news. I guess we're facing big changes again. I've been expecting it for a while, this part of the venture must lose money and that can't happen indefinitely.

In fairness, we (Community) probably don't bring much cash income by comparison, though we do contribute in other ways. But with the current direction of travel it's difficult to see how we can convert those contributions to revenue.
I once suggested improving ad sales then getting premium memberships to go ad free, but hey, other people just make billions off that business model.
Oh well, what do I know?

As far as I can see, the blogs here are no longer blogs, they're just 99% classified ads.
also interesting, I saw the cam couple, in addition to clogging up my email with unwanted garbage, replied twice but then the post was deleted... wonder what that's about. I blocked them pronto.
While I hide and report the personal ads, our liaison went after them with a vengeance so there was a drop in the number of personal ads showing up in the feed. I'm guessing they'll be on the rise since the AI or first tier seem to be able to recognize personal contact info
